I always recommend starting with nothing and adding configuration options only
as you need them.

There’s no need to use it unless you’re installing plugins in a weird,
nonstandard way.

Use YAML syntax. It depends on the type.

Sorry; I don’t know how to use Notepad++. But keys and values being colored
differently sounds like a normal thing for a syntax-highlighting editor to do.
