Just to complete what Carl mentioned:

If the path of your script is e. g.
        '/usr/your_name/www/cgi-bin/your_script.cgi'
and the path of the image e. g.
        '/usr/your_name/www/graphics/image.gif'
then the relative path to the image (relative to the position of the
script in the directory structure) is
        '../graphics/image.gif'.

In Unix - HTML uses Unix conventions with paths - '..' stands for the
parent directory, in this case '/usr/your_name/www'. The way, i. e. the
relative path, to the image file from the script file is "1 step up in
the hierarchy into the parent directory then into the 'graphics'
directory and there the file with the name 'image.gif'". This is an HTML
issue; if you have further questions you may ask me off-list.

If the server is configured to allow this you may put your script file
into the same directory with the other files for this part of your
project. If you do so you not have to change the path to perl in the
shebang line of your script because this is an absolute (Unix) path! It
may improve the clearness of your project to put all files (images,
scripts, styles and HTML) which are logically related into the same
directory. This approach, however, may have some security issues other
lister know better about than me. Anyway, some/most servers are
configured not to allow to execute files outside of special directories.

Cheers
