You should check out apache.org. Chances are you have apache on your
mandrake machine already, if you selected it during the install. If not,
then it's not difficult to pick up.
Another option for you is to make perl scripts, and just run them from your
command line...it's not cgi, but you still learn the basics you'd need to
know anyway.
All you would do is write a script, and call it from your command line by
typing:
perl yourscript
