1.) if ( defined($ENV{'HTTP_REFERER'}) (make sure it's defined too)
2.) syntax. NOT if ($ENV{'HTTP_REFERER'} = "")
instead, try if ( $ENV{'HTTP_REFERER'} eq "" )
= :-: assignment
== :-: logic (numerics)
eq :-: logic (strings)
