Hello:

After I successfully installed ActiveState's Perl 5.6.1 on a Windows 98
platform,
I downloaded DBI-1.20.tar.gz from Symbolstone. I unzipped it and attempted
to install
several different ways with the following results:

1. Using ActiveState's PPM, I typed "install DBI" (and DBI-1.20.tar, etc.).
I get
the error message "Could not locate a PPD file for package dbi". I
looked in
all of the subdirectories and I don't seee any files with "PPD"
extensions (and
I have looked all over the internet).

2. Using Perl, I was able to run "perl makefile.pl", but when I type make,
I get
the error message "Bad command or file name". I also tried dmake and
nmake, but
I get the same message and I don't see those in any of my perl
subdirectories.

3. Using CPAN--well, let's not even go there.

Am I correct in assuming that I install DBI first and then the ODBC DBD (and
other
modules) afterwards? I would appreciate any help.
