[This followup was posted to perl.beginners and a copy was sent to the cited author.] For some reason, a simple "hello world" script I wrote runs fine in an xterm window by just typeing the name. But in a regular non x session I have to say "perl filename" for it to execute. Otherwise I get an unknown filename error.
