Current list volume is a fraction of what it has been. And we all have
things we would like. I'd quite like people to use correct punctuation
so that I can more easily read their messages but I don't suppose it
will happen.

I'm simply suggesting that your idea of what is welcome here is more
narrow than has traditionally been the case. And in the end it doesn't
really matter what you, I or anyone else thinks. In general, people
coming here with their first question aren't going to read the FAQ or
search the list archives to find out whether their question is on topic.
If they are learning Perl, are using it to solve a problem and have run
into difficulties, then they will post here. And that is as it should
be.

Casey and/or Ask (I think) used to post the FAQ here regularly. I
presume it was automated. I don't think it would require major work to
bring it up to date. Provided that you didn't want to make major
changes to it.
