Hi all,
I'm rather new to programming, so I thought I'd ask a couple of general
questions.
I have done a little programming, but It was way back in the early 80's
using BASIC.
I fooled around with that until I went to College to study Audio
Engineering and Music.
That has naturally led me to the Macintosh Platform.
Well, now that the Mac has a Unix core, I've decided to get back into
the technical
end of computing. Ultimately, I'd like to put this all to use by writing
Apps and utilities
useful to the Music and Audio community.
I've been talking to several people, all Pro Computer nerds, about where
to begin.
They all said that I should start with a scripting language and
recommended Perl.
So, I've borrowed the "Learning Pearl" book from one of them, which
brings me to my
first question.

This is a first edition with Minor corrections Printed in August 1994.
Are there serious significant differences from the current edition?
I'm also planning to get the "Programming Perl book.
Can someone recommend any other resources that might help me get off the
ground quicker?
Also, given my goals as stated above, Is Perl really a good choice?
Is anyone aware of any Perl modules or programs pertaining to Audio? In
any form.
I'm really just trying to find reassurance in path that I've chosen.
I Understand that you have to crawl before you walk and walk before you
run.
I'd like to avoid as many unnecessary forks in the road as possible, so
suggestions
on where to go from Perl would also be helpful.
I hope this doesn't generate to much noise for the list, so if you feel
the need
please e-mail me directly.
Thanks,

Tim Roberts
