Actually what you really need is a hash not an array ...
%employee = ( 'name'=>'John Doe' , 'age'=>32 , 'position'=>'SE' , 
'start_date'=>'10/12/2000' );

for my $field (%employee) {
        print "$field: ", $employee{$field} , "\n";
}
