I suppose that Suse, like any other good Linux distribution has a package tool, I guess it is called Yast. If you want to update your perl package, first check Suse web site, they perhaps have a package with the last perl version. It they don't, first uninstall the perl package with Yast, and install yourself the tarball as you did it previously.
