I use Java very little, although the software the company I work is primarily all Java -- application server & bundled Tomcat -- and I have had to diddle around with some of the Java servlets & JSP to get it to cooperate with the system level stuff I usually work on (which is all Perl). However, I have also done a lot of Perl web stuff in other venues, both on Unix & Windows, using mod_perl, plain old CGI and ASP/PerlScript. Java is a very clean language -- almost to clean for my tastes, to the point that it almost looks like Visual Basic! :-) My personal preference for web development is with mod_perl & Mason. You can create very clean (at least for Perl), easy to maintain code, but you still get the freedom and flexibility that Perl has always provided. If you have a multi-programmer software project, you MUST have some kind of coding standard or guideline.
