It's this option tracked by MS's mail software (e.g. Outlook + Outlook Express) that actually sends a receipt to the receiver of a mail-message with the encoding(( for this receipt generation to occur tagged in there.))
It comes up as a dialog box in Outlook saying 'Do you want to ack. receipt of this message yes/no'.
