Problems installing Proc::Spawn

Hello All,

I'm installing Proc::Spawn and I find this:

     /usr/bin/perl Makefile.PL
     Checking if your kit is complete...
     Looks good
     Could not eval '
                 package ExtUtils::MakeMaker::_version;
                 no strict;

                 $VERSION=undef; do {
                     our $VERSION = 1.03;
                 }; $VERSION
             ' in Spawn.pm: Can't modify subroutine entry in scalar
     assignment at (eval 16) line 7, at
     EOF

I'm new in perl and I don't now what is  wrong
