Are you sure? It preserves it OK, its problem is that it doesn't touch the file at all! A solution which edits the file for you may be a few hours work. Are there so many duplicates that you don't want to edit them by hand, or will you want to do this again many times in the future? If not then I suggest that you stick to manual editing.
