I can't say that I have seen that before but I rarely have used external systems, and where I have things tend to be chrooted, etc., but I also won't say that it can't be done, nor that it would be a bad idea.


I think your guess is probably correct, but I have no way to back it up. I would say that you shouldn't want 777 anyways, and if 755 accomplishes your goals, file it in your documentation and move on to more interesting things, though you might let the ISP know they should include it in a FAQ or something...
