Hi Rob, No, you're not heading down the wrong path, you just need the Oracle **client** installed on your local machine.
When recompliling DBI and DBD make sure you've got the following set correctly (appropriate to your set up) ... ORACLE_HOME=/export/home/oracle/OraHome1 PATH=$PATH:/export/home/oracle/OraHome1/bin LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/export/home/oracle/OraHome1/lib Hope this helps.
