I have no hard answers, but here are some suggestions from my admin... I'd look to see which DBD connector he's trying to use. He's also using a multi-threaded perl which I believe is buggy under Solaris -- especially perl 5.6. I'd try re-compiling perl 5.8 and check that the DBD modules are installed correctly.
