If anything it gives us something to do. In my own case it helped me go back over the technical distinctions again, and work out how much of my 'habit' of using parens with subs is driven by mere left over c-coding inclinations, and how much of it has 'value' that can in any way be defended.
As for can it help the OP, or any of the 'silent majority' who read but do not post, you never know. I am often amused to get email from folks who had some odd thought fire up based upon some edge case off a screed I had sent to the list. Sometimes that is just the candle light they needed to start seeing the way...
So I would much rather take up a 'contrary position' at times - if for no other reason than to take it, and see where it will lead me. As someone noted to me, 'in your most humble opinion' - and I believe I countered with
"unlike perl coders who suffer from hubris, impatience, and laziness, I have none of those vices...."
in my modest ascii typing...
