'Deprecated' is one of those words that means what you want it
to mean, so if you don't mean by it what I mean by it then that's
fine. But, literally, it means 'prayed against'.

I would have thought that it always was, and still is, OK: it's
just that most of those who have an opinion would rather it wasn't
done that way. (Of course it depends what you mean by 'OK' :)
