This prints nothing but "Exiting normally" with blead; and now that you mention it... this was already reported as a bug (#24815) and was fixed by change #22068.
For the sake of closure, this is the official answer, buried in a little jargon. Rafael's off list response to me, clears it up a little better:

Summary of the thread: It was a bug in perl (#24815) and is now fixed in the development version 5.9.1. Everybody else will likely see the fix in 5.8.4.
And just to be clear, the bug was that those messages we were seeing, "mandatory warnings", were not being silenced by the 'no warnings' pragma.
