Sorry to make you have to go through all that explanation,
but this is a list for perl beginners and I didn't want to
discuss advanced topics with someone who had written poor code
and was now backed into a corner.
Unfortunately, I am not a perl expert. I'm more like an
advanced beginner (with a lot of patience). The U.S. is
experiencing a major holiday and many of our experts may be
sleeping it off right about now.
You really need to ask this question on a non-beginners
list or at perlmonks (http://www.perlmonks.com/). I think you
would get a very quick reply at Perlmonks. Many more experts
hang out there and you can "chat" if you find that helpful. If
