I just tried building that and it failed with make[3]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/libperl.a', needed by `PerlMagick'. Stop. So checking CPAN, it looks like CORE can only be obtained by contacting the authour at perl-porters.
