I don't mind using PHP for many parts of a website.

For example I like pear/Image_Graph,
see http://pear.php.net/package/Image_Graph and http://pear.veggerby.dk/samples/ If you know a similar Perl module, please let me know.

Sure, search cpan for images.

Forget it. Via 'chart' I found

So you found no module that you could use to create graphs? Not likely.

There is nothing you can do with PHP that you can't do with any other language and usually easier and more secure.

The first link I googled for PEAR was:

 http://pear.php.net/

and it had this to say:

"A serious vulnerability in the PEAR installer has been discovered and fixed recently. One is strongly encouraged to upgrade to version 1.4.3 or newer."

The *epitome* of what if everything PHP :) You have to hire a full time staff just to keep up with all the security updates that just introduce new ones for later. lame stupid dumb but again being hired to fix servers that have been rooted because of some phpBB exploit has been quite good on the bank roll :)

There are tons of Perl modules that can help you make graphs and charts that *do not* have the inadequacies of PHP or rely on some CPAN-wanna-be-that-just-causes-even-more-admin-and-security-nightmares

Bottom line:

Trying to make PHP better by modeling it after Perl (think PEAR and PCRE) is quite a stupid attempt to paint the deck on an already sinking ship, just use the real deal instead of a cheap (and often times burdensome) imitation.
