Thx! That's got it. The docs show a space between the -x and <directory>
My version works on the command line but not as part of a BASH shell;
I spent a lot of time troubleshooting thinking the shell was at fault.
Anyways, this I can use to emulate the !perl ... __END__ on one line
trick ... (of course I'm using two files) but thats OK.
