Does anyone use LWP anymore??

Hi
I'm new to perl so I don't really know much about CGI, and that
stuff....anyways I'm learning Perl because I wanted to learn how to program
web spiders/robots, and was wondering if using LWP is outdated?? or does
anyone else use some other lanuage like C to program Web Spiders??
