I thought long and hard, trying to come up with an answer that felt right. Regular expressions are excellent. Powerful features of the language abound, such as intuitive anonymous function syntax, good support for references (though I like the OCaml syntax just slightly better for references), and the syntax for specifying order of operations in a given program. CPAN is an incredible resource. The wealth of great books on the subject of Perl programming is of immeasurable value. Nothing really struck me as my favorite feature, though. When Randal said "the community", I had a face-palm moment. It's an obvious answer, and it feels right. PerlMonks, in particular, has been invaluable to me, and the community as a whole (including these mailing lists) is unmatched anywhere else I've been. Yeah, I agree: the community is the best thing about Perl. Considering how great some of the other features of the language are, that's really saying something. -- CCD CopyWrite Chad Perrin [ http://ccd.apotheon.org ] Brian K.
