It's not really a Windows problem. Just the syntax of the redirection 
is a bit different under Windows and under Unix.

The illegal operation is strange. Are you sure you don't have some 
hardware problem? (CPU overheating can cause all kinds of hard to 
explain problems) Or borked up instalation of Perl or Windows?
