Well, I've proceeded as I know I have thorough backups of everything anyway.

I feel much more comfortable now as later during the upgrade, I was
advised to install perl binary in a different location other than atop
the original /usr/bin/perl.

Assuming this means that all of my older applications will run
expectedly without difficulty, I can breathe a sigh of relief and
proceed with having a drink.
