That's frustrating. But which is it, no results or returned emails?
Maybe something is getting caught in a spam trap, or maybe you're not
using the same email address that you thought you were using. Could
you have originally joined from your "old" address, which still
forwards mail to your "new" address, for example? It's the old one you
need.

If you still can't find (or remember) the address, use your email
program to view the full header section on a message from the list;
somewhere in the header lines you should be able to find what address
the list is using to reach you. (In Gmail, you can choose "show
original" to see the headers on a message.)

Once you know the address that the list uses to reach you (let's say
it's [EMAIL PROTECTED]), you send mail to this address:

    beginners-cgi-unsub
    scribe
    -fred
    =example.com
    @perl.org

... which is to say, to the email address you get by putting those
pieces together, after you fix them up for the real address.

Good luck with the puzzle!
