Which assuming you use tabs means you just need to tell the editor how wide do you want the tabs. In the other hand with four spaces there is no way to tell the editor to indent a bit more or less. OTOH, over here and on Perlmonks I tend to convert tabs to four or sometimes just two spaces, because there it would get too wide otherwise.
