I find that there's a point, however, where compression and understanding cross paths. After that, the fewer lines and less code only make for less meaning to me as I try desperately to figure out what the code does. Obviously when this happens depends a great deal on how much you know about the language in question - how many idioms you've absorbed, how many times you've used a certain trick, etc.
