"Quite some work has been going on all around the world to support Bengali
on Linux. This is an effort to bring all of it, or as much as possible,
together in one place."

That is the description of "bengalinux" project in SourceForge.net, in
case you do not recognize that statement. When the project started that
was the goal and we worked towards that goal. We became "Ankur" once we
started working as a group. Most of you are part of Ankur right from the
beginning and know the history very well. However, as long as I was an
active member of this group I have observed few aspects of this group, and
I am sure most of you have noticed them too, which I would like to mention
explicitly because going forward I think it is crucial we maintain them.

There is a sense of *trust* among all the core members that is pretty
amazing to me. Most of the core members have never met each other yet we
trust each other on a wide spectrum - from each others technical ability
to intentions. This has been a key factor for the success of this group so
far, and I am sure it won't change in the future.

One thing that strikes me as a great virtue of this group is the *respect*
we have shown each other. We all had our share of disagreements with each
other but we have always respected others' opinion. This helped us having
open *discussions* with out the fear of petty issues like "hurting
someone's feeling". We always listened to what everyone had to say and
made decisions that made the most sense.

Lastly, I have always tried to make sure that everyone in the group has a
sense of ownership of the group. As I mentioned before Ankur started as a
collection of small projects owned by various people. But as it started
getting new members it was important that they realized they also have
ownership of this group. True that this ownership does not mean/translate
to $$, but then again none of us is here for that reason :-)

To me, these have been the values of this group and I strongly feel they
should remain so. As we move forward and welcome new members, I hope we
will treat them according to these same values. In return we expect new
members to exercise these values while working with rest of the group.

This e-mail does not address the flame war I just read regarding Firefox
translation, I'll send out another e-mail regarding that. But I have to
admit, I am deeply disappointed by what I have read. It goes against
everything I have stated above, and we should deal with it as group.

If man, as the existentialist conceives him, is indefinable, it is because
at first he is nothing. Only afterward will he be something, and he
himself will have made what he will be. Thus there is no human nature,
since there is no God to conceive it. Not only is man what he conceives
himself to be, but he is also only what he wills himself to be after this
thrust toward existence.
