Apparently someone at OSU wrote a similar code that used to be
available at the now dead url:
        http://nowlab.cis.ohio-state.edu/projects/mpi-iba/

The pathscale folks made some changes, and their license says:

Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without
modification, are permitted provided ...

I was pondering writing a few lines of perl to output the result
into a PPM/PGM image to look for patterns (spatial or time based).

In any case here it is (unmodified):

It's only 50 or so lines of c.
