Anything computationally intensive would be potential grist for a Beowulf. 

For instance, if you wanted to do video compression, or process lots of video 
frames to do feature extraction?

Wasn't there a news story about somebody trying to tag all photos on the 
internet with the names of everyone in the photo? There's a computationally 
large but potentially parallelizable task.
