Excuse me James for hijacking your post. I'll try to be brief. I want to chime in on the copy and paste to the list issue using this story as an example. Jeff and I write for HPC Admin (and occasionally some other sites). We get paid, not a lot, but enough so we have some pocket change to buy hardware and such without our respective spouses complaining. HPC Admin, pays us from ad revenue, so if you want to keep seeing good stories from Jeff (and hopefully me), then give HPC Admin the clicks, it is that simple. It you cut and paste Jeff's article, it probably violates HPC Admin's copyright and does not give them clicks (assumptions to contrary are just assumptions and in an Internet world all views/clicks matter) ClusterMonkey is a little different in that virtually all content is under a Creative Commons non-commercial attribution license, so it can be freely copied with proper attribution (BTW, in the past we have found compete CM articles stripped of attribution on other sites and blogs, by those that do not understand the meaning of attribution) ClusterMonkey is also designed as a community site. There is no registration required, there are small banner ads for the occasional sponsor. I have tried to keep article pages as "content dense" as possible (I.e. we don't have one paragraphs pages designed to increase banner display counts) Content on ClusterMonkey has a good shelf life as we see continued hits on tutorial and background information. Our goal is good technical "how-to" content, background, benchmarks, and the occasional interesting news piece. The site is no one's day job. Jeff Layton and I have provided much of the current content because we like to write and like to help the community. If you want to help the community, you can write an article for ClusterMonkey (contact me off list), visit the site once and a while, or refer people to it when they are interested in learning about cluster HPC. Posting links to CM articles that you find useful is also very helpful. Finally, I did just post and article on some experiments with small scale switchless 10GigE, http://goo.gl/5l2NJ if you are interested in that kind of thing.
