Apologies for echoing yet another Register article. However I remember when 
serial terminal servers were common on Beowulf clusters
I really don't want to think about how they would scale (or not!) to a petaflop 
cluster! RS232 cables everywhere!
(Yes - I KNOW blades servers don't even have the physical serial connectors 
anymore. I'd guess they will die out on pizza box servers
when The Younger Generation start to fall about with laughter like the Smash 
Martians when oldtimers start to talk about null modems).
