Bay Leaves – Alternative Medicine For Lowering Cholesterol

One health problem that is feared by many people is high cholesterol.

This health problem is easy to come because our lifestyle tends to be very bad,
especially in terms of unhealthy eating patterns.

In fact, if cholesterol levels are already high, this might lead to more
serious health problems such as heart disease or stroke.

Managing your diet becomes one of the most important roles in reducing high
cholesterol.

One of the foods that can reduce high cholesterol is bay leaves.

Bay leaf has the Latin name Syzygium polyanthum.

It is a species of plant in the Myrtaceae family, native to Indochina and
Malesia.

The leaves of the plant are traditionally used as a food flavouring and
alternative medicine.

Quoted from the National Center for Biotechnology Information, consuming bay
leaves can reduce total cholesterol by around 20 to 24 percent.

These results were obtained after 30 days of consuming bay leaves.

Benefits of bay leaves are observed in patients with type 2 diabetes.

By consuming bay leaves, can increase High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or good
cholesterol levels in the body by 29 percent.

Bay leaves contain flavonoid compounds that act as anti-oxidants.

These compounds can prevent the oxidation process in body cells which can be
the cause of the emergence of degenerative diseases.

Quercetin, one of the flavonoids contained in bay leaves can prevent LDL
oxidation.

Bay leaf itself is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, calcium, and magnesium.

In addition, bay leaves also contain caffeic acid, eugenol, quercetin, and
catechin.

Bay leaves also contain tannin and saponin compounds.

Tannins function to suppress the absorption of body fat.

While saponin functions to bind cholesterol with bile acids so that it can
reduce excess cholesterol.

To feel the benefits and suppress cholesterol levels with bay leaves, you can
make it as a drink.

You can process a number of bay leaves into tea for everyday consumption.

To make drinks made from bay leaves, we only need to take 10 to 15 bay leaves
that have been washed thoroughly and then boil them together with 3 cups of
water.

If the remaining water is only about one glass left, immediately turn off the
stove and then strain the boiled water of the bay leaf.

Let it cool and the water is ready for consumption at night.
