My 2 cents from a puppy buyers (PPO) point of view - I figure it is my
responsibility to investigate a PAB (potentially acceptable breeder!!!!) to
find out what their lines are like, the medical histories, etc. I don't
expect a guarantee - in the first place, once that little bundle of fur came
to live with me there is NO WAY she would be going back because of some
defect unknown at the time of purchase. I would have to assume the
responsibilities of any owner - to give the best care I possibly could.
Those of us who have gotten BARC pups know what this means. Those people
who are kind enough to rescue or adopt any dog from a shelter know what this
means. In the second place, anyone who has tried to enforce any contract in
the courts will know that can be practically impossible, not to mention
costly. I would hope I would be dealing with a breeder who can advise and
support me, and who is following up on all her puppies in order to improve
future breedings.

It is hard for me to relate to those who are looking for "show quality"
puppies and want their money back or want to return the dog if they don't
turn out to be perfect specimens. I CAN see if they paid a premium that
there is room for negotiation. But I still can't see looking at a dog only
for their potential in the ring (and as breeding stock). Aren't they ALL
worthy of our love and the best life we can provide? If the puppy doesn't
turn out to be "perfect" it doesn't make them any less deserving. These
puppies aren't VCR's or refrigerators or vacuum cleaners to be returned if
they are defective - they are ours to take care of.

Flame away - I have a tough skin!
