Hi Carol,
I worked with a lady who suffered a traumatic blow to her head and shortly
after she was diagnosed with retinal detachment, she did go blind in one
eye but the other was perfectly normal.  Can't help you as far as dogs go
but presume you have consulted with a board-certified opthalmologist who
has ruled out Progressive Retinal Atrophy that is inherited.
