Like others who posted, I don't know much about retinal detachment in dogs but can offer a perspective on the condition in humans. I suspected a detached retina in my right eye and insisted the eye doctor see me that day. Have you ever been to the movies where the film overheated and you could see celluloid turn black and curl at the edges? (had to be pre-digigal movies!) That is what my vision was like. My surgery would not have been suitable for a dog. The eye doctor injected a bubble in my eye, which acted as a pressure bandage against the retina to keep it in place. Trick was, I had to keep my head tilted about 45 degrees to the left for a week to keep the bubble in the proper position. I know this does not answer your question, but dogs do adapt well and I believe the condition is generally unilateral as it was in my case. If there is good vision in the other eye I would expect the dog would do quite well. Thinking good thoughts for you and your dog. Vicky Hall in Utah
