I would never tell you what to do but I will share my experience with raw hide and chew eez. I have used both these items - with my other dogs. So naturally when I brought my Berner home - I tried them as well. I began to read some precautions about them on the L and thankfully, began to watch very diligently whenever I gave the treats. Tasha, the older Berner I rescued loved them and was very good at chewing on the cheew eez. Then came our puppy Cooper. Needless to say, Cooper did just what I heard many Berners do and chewed one for a mere bit or two then gulped it down. I actually had to perform the heimlich on him. There will never be any raw hides ever again in this house! I have since learned about the additives and all the things that raw hides may contain and that has only strengthened my position on them. I give Cooper huge smoked cow bones (they call them mammoth or dinosaur bones), or raw turkey necks. He gets plenty of toys to chew on (and a few that he sneaks from the children's rooms) but never any raw hide. I also have given him the nyla bones, green eez, and chewable snack bones. He actually doesn't like his Kong very much - with or without peanut butter. Good luck to you.....I hope you never have to do the heimlich on a deep chested Berner... its no fun!
