So. I have this morning torture, er, exercise routine. In an effort to combat a long commute and a job which requires lots of time in a sitting or recumbent position, I've taken up a fitness routine. I figure I already ride 5-6x a week, two horses, plus care of a farm, and the dogs, yada yada. But I wanted some more fitness for my new levels of competition with my more advanced horse, and I would like to eat more than it takes to keep a butterfly alive.
So. I do 150 or 200 crunches each morning when I get out of bed, then stretch, drag out the treadmill, stick in a tape, run a mile and then power walk until the end of the program (about 45 minutes on the treadmill altogether). Then I put on some layers and go out and do morning stables. Hurrah. I have to kick the dogs out during the morning routine, because they want to help. Lliira the Pyr girl sleeps on our bed, and she never wants to get out, so the other day I decided to try letting her stay in bed while I kicked the rest of the hairy hoard out. This worked until about crunch 100, when she decided to hop off the bed, snuffle my forehead, and put both front feet on my shoulders to pin me down. Apparently I needed resistance training. Out she went. Then, this morning, I decided to do the horse chores first because I slept until the sinful hour of 8:00am. No dogs were still in the bedroom when I went up to do my crunches/stretches (running downstairs, crunch/stretch upstairs. It's a space thing). So I flop on the floor and start crunching. Cassie the Rescue Pyr girl runs in, flings herself down along my side, and snuggles up against me. Ok, I think, I can do this--she's just next to me. Right up until she put her big old head on my chest. Another proponent of resistance training. I decide to ignore her and keep crunching. She thinks this is marvelous. Then Micawber the Berner boy bursts in, runs over, flips around and sits on my abdomen. End of dog-assisted crunches. Everyone out. Why does everyone feel such a need to help me out? I guess at least Nessie the Newfie has not chimed in her two cents.
