Help - please help! I am desparetly looking for a good trainer - preferably one familiar with Berners and their behaviors - in the Aurora, IL area.
Here is what is happening. Dharma is now 2 and this problem has been going on for about 1 year now and I always thought it would go away when she got older. It did for a short time and now it is back. At the moment, we do not have a fenced in yard - new development and it will be done this April. Anyway, when I take her out for her walks it is a battle every step of the way. She won't listen to any of her commands (and she graduated puppy and advanced training with flying colors). She pulls me, she runs in circles and she will grab and even eat anything she sees on the ground (again, not listening to my commands). Then she will do this - she will sit down or even lie down and roll over on her back and won't move. She won't get up when commanded, she won't come when commanded, she won't even sit when commanded. She will just lie there until she feels like moving. This usually happens when we get closer to home - like she does not want to go home. I take her for long walks - 1/2 or more 2xs a day and we play at home (when time permits; I do have to work and we cuddle). What I have been trying is telling her she is a "bad girl" or "quit it" and then pull on her lead and say "let's go". I have been very consistent with this and sometimes it works and more often it does not. What I end up having to do is drag her in the grass until she gets up. This is very embarrassing and very frustrating - especially since this NEVER happens when my husband takes her out. Now, we have been tracking when she does this to me and it peaks and gets at its worst when I am starting my female cycle. Am I having a horomone fight with her? Is it a battle of the females? Help - I need to find a trainer in my area who would come to my home during a time when I normally walk her. The trainer would need to stay a distance away from me while I walk her and then watch for when she does these things and then come to us and help me correct them. She won't do it if someone else is around - especially a male. Thank You Terri
