Porter's (1 yr old BMD) little brother Kief (6 mos GSD) is beginning to give me gray hair ...okay more gray hair ;)
A bit of background: Both Porter & Kief have been left alone on numerous occassions trouble-free. The problems began on May 19 when they were left alone for about 4 hours. Upon returning home Kief had used the dining room as a toilet (were able to stop this one by simply not allowing him in there) and destroyed a case of coke among other things. Yesterday, they were alone in the house about 3 hours (I checked on them after 2 hrs and they & the house were fine). When I came back an hour later Kief had destroyed magazines. I believe most damage is usually done with the first 1/2 hour of being left alone, but he was fine for the first 2 hours. Today, I was upstairs in the house and my husband was outsid for a maximum of 1/2 an hour and when I went back downstairs Kief had removed & destroyed EVERYTHING from a side table (very quietly I might add - I didn't hear a thing!). Kief was able to see his Daddy outside, but when my husband went outside he asked Kief if he wanted to come, but he wasn't interested. Is this separation anxiety? I know the answer is to simply not have these things around for him to get into &/or crate him when he's alone. My questions/concerns are: 1) Why is this behaviour starting now? as a young pup he didn't give us any grief. 2) Will we ever be able to leave items on tables again? or is this something we will always have to be cautious about? Any suggestions on how to deal with this would be greatly appreciated! We didn't have to deal with anything even remotely similar with Porter or any previous dogs. Besides crating and/or removing all potential items I'm at a loss ... Thanks, ===== Jennifer Martyn Conn, Ontario, Canada __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
