Hello- We just welcomed a 10 week old puppy into our home last week. His name is Vinny and he's full of spunk. Our two year old, Ringo, is not too sure about the little guy yet, but is doing well with him overall.
After breakfast this morning, I gave Ringo a raw cow bone to chew on (he is on BARF and puppy is still on kibble). Ringo tried to enjoy his bone, but the puppy got in his face and was constantly barking at him, and even tried to steal the bone a few times (Ringo let out a low growl). I didn't think this was very good, so I decided to see what would happen if I gave the pup a bone, too. Well, he loved it, and all was quiet for a while. Then, Ringo came over and decided to see if the pup's bone was any better than his. He is a stand offish sort of dog (neutered, too), so he didn't try to take it, but just stood back a few feet waiting for the right moment to steal it. When he did get close to the bone, my cute little furball growled, which I had never heard come from him before. That alarmed me and I thought I may have a problem on my hands, so I picked the pup up and brought him inside. Now, Ringo is outside with two bones to choose from! Did I do anything wrong in the first place with giving the pup the bone? What about removing him from the situation? Ordinarily, I would let two dogs work it out, but since Vinny is so small, I didn't think that was a good idea. Any suggestions? This my first experience with two dogs, so I'm trying to figure out how to work it so everyone is happy. -Rachel, Ringo, and now, Vinny Fishers, IN __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
