Hi all, Does anyone have experience in dealing with a berner with environmental allergies? My 15 month old boy Porter for the 2nd time since spring has come in contact with an allergen (we believe). My vet doesn't believe it is food related as Porter is fed Wellness lamb & rice formula (no chicken) and treats consist of all-natural peanut butter or honey cookies, plain yogurt, meaty bones, carrots and eggs. My vet also states that food allergy symptoms are usually present in the ears and eyes. Porter's problem is with feet/rectum licking and tail biting. The vet believes the allergy is something he is inhaling. The allergy reared it's ugly head again last week and Porter's temperature went to 103 and his glands were slightly swollen, along with the feet and rectum licking and tail biting. We have tried Benadryl in the past, we saw no improvement whatsoever. My vet also told me that only 30% - 40% of dogs respond to human over-the-counter allergy medications. The only thing that seems to work is Delta-Albaplex (antibiotic/steriod combo), which I really don't like giving him.
Is there anyone out there who has any suggestions? For the vets on the list, are there any non-steriodal medications that could help Porter? Are there any naturopaths out there with any safe, proven herbal remedies? Thanks in advance, ===== Jennifer Martyn Conn, Ontario, Canada __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
