We own and managed all of our device.
Knowing that third party application could cause problems for the device and
potentially be sending out corporate information (e.g. facebook 1.6) we have
stuck to disallowing application unless they have been reviewed and approved.
But this becomes an admin nighmare because we have to manage the install and
support.

Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] BlackBerry Third Party Application Installation Policy

Risk:
Some downloaded apps cause JVM errors on BBs. Thus requiring support visits,
OS reloads, etc.
End-Training. Users ask how these work, I shake my head and tell them RTFM.
Memory Leaks.

Benefits:
Um....

Now I allow 3rd party apps on all enterprise BBs, only reason - we do not own
the BBs...each BB is user-owned.

Thanks!

Subject: [Bes-admins] BlackBerry Third Party Application Installation Policy

Hi,

Just wondering how other admins are handling installation of 3rd party
application.
We currently disallow installation of 3rd party applications using IT policy.
This has caused various complaints and request from our user base.

How do you deal with third party applications?

Is there any risk/benefits to the approach?

Regards,
Dzung
