Connect to pc and run chekdisk on it

Card not seen by external card reader.
Works fine if I connect the BB to BB Manager, then put the card and
battery back. I can access the card and do things on the BB. As soon
as I unplug the BB from the USB, it freezes.
My guess is a corrupted file system on the card. Is there a way to
checkdisk or reformat it?
Any other ideas?
