Hi Sasha,

Thanks for the comment. I welcome any comment for better clarification of this
draft. As such your comment is well taken and I’ll remove “multipoint” word
from the sentence. So, the new sentence will read: “… a family of solutions for
Ethernet services over MPLS/IP network …”

Regards,
Ali

Subject: A comment about draft-ietf-bess-evpn-virtual-eth-segment
Hi,
I have a comment about the Virtual Ethernet Segment
draft<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-bess-evpn-virtual-eth-segment-12>.

The first two sentences of the Introduction to this draft says (the problematic
text is highlighted):

RFC7432<https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc7432>] and
[RFC7623<https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc7623>] introduce a family of
solutions for multipoint Ethernet services over MPLS/IP network with many
advanced features among which their multi‑homing capabilities. These solutions
introduce Single-Active and All-Active redundancy modes for an Ethernet Segment
(ES), itself defined as a set of links between the multi‑homed device/network
and a set of PE devices that they are connected to.

Thie highlighted text above can be interpreted as restricting multi-homing
capabilities of EVPN (including capabilities provided by using multi-homed
virtual Ethernet segments defined in the draft) as being limited to just
multipoint Ethernet service but not to EVPN-VPWS as defined in RFC
8214<https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc8214>.

In fact, EVPN-VPWS is fully compatible with All-Active and Single-Active
redundancy modes, and RFC 8214 is quite unambiguous about that. What’s more,
IMHO and FWIW, multi-homing support in EVPN-VPWS is fully applicable to all
aspects of virtual multi-homed Ethernet Segments.

May I suggest modifying the quoted text in the Introduction to prevent possible
misunderstanding?

Regards, and lots of thanks in advance,
Sasha

Sasha
