Patrick

I am running BC v 4.33.2

The documentation you are reading is old. The 'country' entry has
been moved from the tab tool to the 'Stocks/Options...' menu, as you
have correctly discovered. My understanding is that setting the
country to 'France' causes BC to add the suffix .PA to the stock
code, to build the stock code that gets passed to Yahoo. If I change
the country to France (in the 'Stocks/Options...' dialog), and then
simply enter CGEP (Alcatel) in the tool tab, BC returns the correct
chart, with the code CGEP.PA showing at the top left of the window.

Alternatively, you can set the country to USA, which causes no suffix
to be added automatically. Then you can add the suffix manually in
the 'Symbol' panel, e.g. CGEP.PA This approach also works for me
here.

With all of the above, I have both the Historical Quote and Portfolio
Data Sources set (also via the 'Stocks/Options...' dialog) to Data
Source 3. You may need to experiment with the data sources.

Now regarding your query about stock picking. BC does NOT have a
specialist stock picking facility. The best you can do is set up
portfolios of 20 stocks each, and run analyses on each portfolio. It
would take 2 portfolios to accommodate the CAC-40, for example. Then
if you run 'Portfolios/Analyze 20 stocks (quotes from web)' for each
portfolio you will get Bullish/Bearish readings for each stock. As
you said, you would need to perform individual AIOs for each stock
involved, before running this option. However, if you want to
optimize only occasionally, for individual stocks, then see 'NOTE 2'
in the section

You might also like to read the paragraph that begins: 'BC's
portfolio facility can be very useful ...' in the same post.
